Simplicity 2413

This fabric called me as soon as I saw it.  It's part of my Austin fabric haul. It is a navy cotton background with bias strips of different prints. The stripes run along the width of the fabric, it looks like a chevron above but it's just the way I unfolded the fabric.

I wanted a skirt with a little bit of flare and I did not want to piece the fabric . To the rescue comes Simplicity 2413. Both front and back are cut on the fold and the zipper is in the pocket, yay!

I just finished adding to the waist in the pattern since for some reason I bought the smaller group of sizes, and the fabric is all ready to be cut.

Mother's day celebration

Entrance to the Chinese pavilion

Yesterday we went to the US National Arboretum to celebrate Mother's Day, I forget why we had to postpone the celebration, but yesterday was the perfect day to walk the gardens.

Mountain laurel in Fern Valley
It is our tradition for mother's and father's day, rather than giving/receiving gifts, to pick something that we would like to do. I always pick an outing to a garden.

We have been at the arboretum many times but there's always something new to see as the exhibits change and depending on when you go something different is blooming.

Pattern Review Austin Weekend

On May 1 I flew to Austin to join old friends and new, to socialize, fabric shop and sightsee. To tell you the truth I didn't do much sightseeing except when going shopping. It was a really busy three and a half days and socializing was my number one goal.

It was great to get to see Kyle!

¡Qué bien volver a ver a Kyle!

I had known Sharon through her blog and we became fabric sisters, every fabric she loved I had to have and viceversa.

Austin is a very fun city, on Friday I did quite a bit of walking to accompany some to do boot shopping. Along the way we checked out vintage and yarn shops.

Our hotel in downtown Austin

On Sunday Jeanette (LadyBeGood in PR) and I had the opportunity to take a walk to a neighborhood not far from the hotel where the homes (all beautiful old homes) had been turned into bars where live music could be heard. It was a very young crowd and so fun.

All four roomies ended up with similar jewelry, it was Andrea's fault! :-) She had the necklace already and we found a vendor that had them and bracelets. Claire (Claire in Montreal in PR) bought a necklace, above Connie and I show off our new bracelets.

and best of all, time to see old friends and make new ones.

Consider attending the Los Angeles weekend next year, you won't regret it!
