A few small finished (or almost finished) projects

My Halloween sewing was minimal, sort of ran out of time. For my son I put together a quick tunic and mask for his medieval flavored outfit. The cloak I made before.

Todo lo que planeaba para Halloween no se realizó, se me acabó el tiempo. A mi hijo le hice una túnica y una máscara que le viniera bien a su capa estilo medieval. La capa la hice anteriormente.

For my husband I also made a tunic, cheetah print, for him to wear when volunteering at a Halloween zoo event last weekend. The rest of the outfit he had from many Halloweens ago, he decorated the shoes and did his own makeup. I only helped with the hair.

For both tunics I used a Simplicity tunic pattern, from a biblical pattern collection, basic as can be.

Las dos túnicas, super sencillas, son del mismo patrón de Simplicity, una colección biblica.

The bubble skirt is for theater. I am turning a simple sequin shift into a bubble dress 80s style. I asked for help on Facebook on how to make it, and several ladies came to the rescue, thank you!. I used no pattern; a lining  where the outer gathered at the hem and waistline piece (twice the width of the lining) is attached. I like how it came out, a lot of poof since it is a poly taffeta. I will show you the finished project when is done.

Enjoy your weekend!

¡Disfruten del fin de semana!

Happy Halloween!

Here are my cuties, when they were 6 (Charmeleon from Pokemon) and 2 1/2 (the dinosaur) in 2000.

The pattern is from Simplicity, I believe is discontinued because Pokemon characters are probably not as popular as they once were, but there are other dinosaurs patterns, they never go out of style.

They loved their costumes and my youngest was thrilled that he got to be part of his brother's first grade Halloween parade.

They still like to get dressed up for Halloween and having a mom that is willing to make up costumes to their design helps a lot ;-)

Liking Halloween seems to run in the family...

Hoping everyone is safe after the storm. We were very, very lucky, for the first time ever we came through a storm with power, no flooding and no major tree branches down.

Halloween

My kids today woke up fever free and as the day went on felt well enough to go trick or treat. The weather did not cooperate and it has been raining on and off all night, so we did a quick run and returned home with full baskets (neighbors were afraid of low showing due to weather so they were more generous than usual).

My teenager wore the cloak I made for him last year and the youngest was a knight. For the knight outfit I once again used the pattern I have been using for 3 years now to make the bodice armor, the pants are from a McCall's pajamas set and the helmet I found instructions for here.

This is the sword my husband made, he also made the shield. The sword turned out fantastic, is made of wood and then carved and painted. My son is thrilled with it.

Happy Halloween!!!

That wonderful time of the year

So Halloween is coming and although I've had the fabrics for my youngest costume for weeks no sewing has been accomplished. Yesterday I took the pattern out which I graded down from adult to what a tall 8 year old could wear. This was 2 years ago so he's done some growing since then.

Here is the pattern:

And a picture of my son when I first made it:

I used the version in the center and added a hood, he was a character from a favorite game. Now he wants to be a different character from the game, but I will still be able to use the basic design, instead of a robe it will be a shirt and pants and the armor will reach his waist; he also wants some kind of hood, but I still don't have a clear version of how he wants it to look like, I'm sure we'll find something from one of our other Halloween patterns. The new version will be all black in different designs and textures (he went to the store with me to pick out the fabrics). Yesterday I got his new measurements and had a little bit of time to work on the pattern. I hope to get it cut today.
