Burda Style Magazine 2/2013 Knit top No 127

I pulled out this issue to make the wide leg pants (already made but need to be photographed!) and I remembered that I had made the dress version of this top so I decided to make the top.

Cuando saqué esta revista para hacer los pantalones de pata ancha (ya están hechos pero necesito tomar fotos) me acordé que había hecho el vestido y decidí que necesitaba un nuevo pulover.

The flower print is from Elliott Berman Textiles, the solid was in my stash (a rayon knit). The shirring on the sleeve in the front and back makes this pattern a little different and it gives a nice fit to the bodice. Note that the sleeves are really long, I cut off about 3 inches.

Este bello estampado viene de Elliott Berman Textiles, la otra estaba también en mi colección (es una tela de punto de rayon). El recogido en las mangas, en el frente y atrás es un detalle que distingue este patrón y entalla bien el corpiño. Las mangas son bien largas, les corté como 3 pulgadas.

This one is a keeper.

Me encanta este diseño y estoy segura que lo volveré a confecionar.

A gift of fabric

My mom used to sew a lot but not any more. She now knits and crochets instead. But she still has quite a stash of fabrics. Yesterday I went to see her and she gave me the fabrics you see posted here. The beautiful white silk she gave me last year for Mother's day, isn't gorgeous? This is a "good" fabric and so I'm looking for the right pattern.




From the left is a light weight cotton that will make a pretty tunic or full skirt, next is another silk damask for a blouse and the white silk; both could be made into dresses there's plenty of yardage.

The next photo from the left a stripe silk for a blouse and a rayon print that came from a Fabric Place (Michael's) ( they were selling it at $1.00 a yard a couple of years ago who could resist?)

Like many of you who are going to PR weekend in Philadelphia, I'm saving all my pennies, so this gift was received with great enthusiasm!

I have been working on the McCalls knit dress I mentioned in my previous post. It has given me all sort of construction issues, my fabric is extremely stretchy and doesn't want to behave. I think I finally got it, more details to come.

So I finished the Burda WOF jumper and the turtleneck top to go with it but I haven't had a chance to photograph it to show you. I'm happy with the way the outfit turned out. Stay tuned for pictures soon.

I also decided that it was time to make the coat I had planned and bought materials for last year. The muslin is made and tested and the fabric prepared, I have everything I need to go ahead. In preparation I started re-reading my material on making coats. I'm starting with the Bishop Method of Clothing Construction, then I will review The Great Coat Sew Along and Tailoring. I have made jackets and one coat before so not every technique will be new to me, however I have never tackled welt pockets before, so this will be new and I also want to try bound buttonholes. I'm looking forward to the adventure.

I also wanted to show you the last patterns I bought.



I loved 2473 when it first came out, but at the previous Simplicity sale they didn't have it (at Joann's). I really like the view with the collar for winter but I also like the other views. View A in 2560 is a really pretty layering piece (I'm always cold so I like layers), and I have fabric to make it with. View D of 2501 is wonderful, the sleeves are feminine without being frilly.


When I saw the review in Threads magazine for the Cynthia Rowley 2586 this cut of fabric came to mind. I think I can use the border at the hem and sleeves. I'm sure some of you will recognize this fabric, it came from Fabric Mart a while ago and Carolyn made a wonderful jacket out of it (I'm sorry I couldn't find it on her blog for a link!)

When photographing the fabric my camera was behaving weird. Keep your fingers crossed that it will straighten itself out!

A stash confessional

Like I said in my previous post I got more than I planned at Kashi's and the pile arrived yesterday as he promised.

These are the knits, from left the first 4 are rayon knits, the solid heathers are beautiful which Kashi showed me after I got the print. The last two are poly knits. I do have a general idea of what I'm making with these but I don't want to commit yet. Looking at these I can say the mood was blue apparently ;)

Here are the wovens. On the left what Kashi called a Japanese cotton which will be made into this Burda top. The last on this row is another Japanese cotton that Carolyn made famous in her blog, this one for a sheath dress. The yellow print, which looks greenish in the picture, is a cotton with some stretch, I'm thinking another sheath dress. Next a Swiss dot for a top and above a silk for this tunic

When he was cutting my fabric, this denim was being put away by one of his assistants and I couldn't resist. It is double sided one a medium blue the other a very cool print.

Considering that last time I saw Kashi was a year ago, I'm thinking this wasn't so bad...The angst us fabric lovers put ourselves through...
