New Look 6525 Knit dress

I made this pattern back in December 2018 and for no particular reason never wore it until recently.

Cosí este vestido en diciembre del 2018!! y no llegué a estrenarlo hasta hace unas semanas, no me pregunten por qué.

Worn with RTW cardigan

I did not have any issues with it, made my usual alterations. It is fitted in the upper body but of course it swings out as you can see. Check how much you wanted it to swing out and consider using a very drapey fabric. I used a heftier single knit because I wanted it to be on the warm side for winter wear. While I like my dress it does flare out quite a bit.


Todo fue bien en la hechura haciendo mis ajustes típicos. Este diseño es entallado en el pecho y hombros pero abre muchísimo más allá de la cintura. Midan bien para que no les quede super ancho y recomiendo que usen tela de punto con mucha caída. Yo usé una tela bastante gordita pues quería que me mantuviera calentita en el invierno, y por lo tanto la salla tiene bastante volúmen.

The gathered skirt took time and patience but it was not difficult to attached to the body.


El vuelo tomó su tiempo de unir al cuerpo pero no fue difícil.

Deer and Doe Plantain top

The Plantain is a free downloadable/printable pattern that I found while looking at Dear and Doe patterns. I also found out that it was very popular when it first came out (look at all the reviews in Pattern Review!)...I'm very behind with trends :-)


Este patrón (con el nombre El plátano) se puede conseguir de gratis en Deer and Doe. Después me enteré de que fue muy popular cuando primero se ofreció pues hay un montón de artículos en Pattern Review. Cómo dicen en inglés "yo llegué tarde a la fiesta" :-)



I made it before I started working on my son's cosplay this summer ( I will blog about that later).


Lo cosí antes de empezar a trabajar en el cosplay de mi hijo este verano (más tarde les contaré del disfraz)

It was very easy to make. I love the fit of the neckline. My version has a bit of a swing at the hem which I love because it reminds me of an RTW top I had to retire this summer.


Este patrón es muy facil de hacer. Me encanta lo bien que queda el escote. Mi versión quedó acampanada en las caderas lo cuál me recuerda de un pulover RTW que tuve que dejar de usar.



Other than my regular adjustments I did not change anything. I can see using this pattern over and over. It does include a longer sleeve version. The fabric I used had been aging in my stash for quite a while.


No tuve que hacerle ningún ajuste aparte de los que normalmente hago. Yo pienso volver a usar este patrón especialmente usando las mangas largas. La tela que usé hacía tiempo que la tenía guardada.



My youngest took the pictures on our recent trip to the beautifully located Calvert Marine Museum in Southern Maryland.

Vogue 1567 Paco Peralta for Vogue Patterns

You might be asking yourself what am I doing wearing a fall/winter outfit in high humidity/temperature weather. It is a good question and here is why. I finished this outfit months ago and never had the chance to photograph it. When I saw that Vogue has fall patterns out and with the encouragement of my friend Paco I decided that now was the time to do it. Before I say anything, I love this outfit!!!!! I love the skirt and top and I love that the way I envisioned this pattern is what I got!!


Me imagino se están preguntando qué hago vestida para frío cuando hay calor y humedad. Muy buena pregunta y les digo por qué. Terminé este conjunto hace meses y no tuve oportunidad de tomar fotos. Cuando vi que Vogue había sacado los modelos del otoño me dije que aprovechara y acabara de mostrarselos pues además estoy encantada con él. ¡Me encanta este modelo! Y muy contenta de que como yo deseaba que me quedara así quedó.

The fabric for the skirt I bought at Fabric Mart (https://www.fabricmartfabrics.com/) when I visited the store with a group of sewers a few years ago. It is a wool plaid with distortion? In person it looks more of a plaid :-)


La tela de la falda la compré en Fabric Mart (https://www.fabricmartfabrics.com/) cuando visité la tienda ya hace varios años con un grupo. La tela es de lana con un diseño de cuadros distorcionado que en persona se nota el cuadro más.

The top is made out of ponte knit. I love the v-neck in the back.

El pulover está confeccionado de tela de punto (ponte knit). Me encanta el cuello de pico en la espalda.



Both fabrics came from my stash.

Las dos telas salieron de mi colección. :-)

The waistband is a little loose on me because I lost some weight after the skirt was finished. I plan to take some temporary tucks on the sides so that the waistband holds up the pleats a little better.


El fajín de la cintura me queda grande pues perdí peso después de haber terminado la falda. Planeo cogerle un pequeño pliegue en cada lado para que que los pliegues (que son bolsillos) tenga mejor soporte.

The skirt is completely finished with bias binding. The construction was challenging and required patience when it came to the 3 seams unions....but did I tell you how much I love this outfit? Totally worth the work!


La falda está completamente terminada con bandas al bies. La construcción tuvo sus momentos más trabajosos, especialmente en las uniones de tres costuras...pero les dije lo mucho que me gusta el resultado? ¡Todo valió la pena!

I like wearing it with a belt also.

I loved this pattern as soon as it came out and I'm so glad that I made it up. Another winner from Paco!

The last post of the year

I can now post about the needle holders (for knitting and crochet) that I made Andrea, since she received them yesterday. The pattern is McCalls 4728 and although I have made it before it seems I never blogged about it, and it seems to be out of print, which it's a shame since it is a really good pattern.

Ahora puedo mostrarles estos estuches que le hice a Andrea. Son perfectos para guardar las agujas de tejer y crochet. El patron, McCalls 4728 parece que lo discontinuaron pues no lo encontré en el website. Y aunque lo he usado muchas veces parece que nunca hablé de él en el blog.

I have made this pattern I think 4 or 5 times now, all for gifts, so I still have my own needles in a plastic bag :-)

Como les dije éste patrón lo he usado 4 o 5 veces siempre para regalar así que yo aún tengo mis agujas en una bolsa plástica. :-)


The fabrics I used were in my stash, as was the ribbon. They both look the same inside.

Las telas ya las tenía y me gustó mucho como combinaron. Los dos rollitos son iguales por dentro.

I also yesterday finished the  Burda dress I have been working on (I think Oct 2013 111). It took a little bit of work to make it look good. It is a style out of my comfort zone but I'm looking forward to sharing it with you so stay tuned!

Ayer terminé un vestido de Burda, creo de octubre, numero 111. Me costó el que me quedara como yo quería. Es un estilo distinto para mí así que quiero ensenarselos para que me digan que piensan.

Simple Laptop Sleeve

Yesterday I finished the laptop envelope for DS2. DS1 received his at Christmas but my youngest didn't like any of the fabrics I had for his. When I told Andrea that I was having trouble finding a fabric he liked she mentioned she had a dragon print in black, red and gray that maybe my son would like since she knows he is big into fantasy. She sent a picture and he loved it! So I ran to Joann's and I couldn't find it so Andrea, a dear that she is, went to her local Joann's, bought it and mailed it to me!

I used an excellent tutorial over at Sew, Mama, Sew! . The only thing that I did different was to fuse the fleece to the lining instead of the fashion fabric. The fabric for DS1 is textured and the fusible fleece would have crushed it. It is a great tutorial that  can be used for any size rectangular shaped device, she gives a little formula to figure out the panel sizes to cut.

This was a quick and satisfying project, don't forget practical too! I feel a little better that the kids have an extra layer of protection on their computers when they are transporting them.

Welcoming the New Year

The past week or so I have been going through my fabrics and remnants to put some order in the stash. Out of that came out one Christmas present for my mom, which I will show a picture of later, since I forgot to take one before giving it to her. I also found a couple of knit remnants big enough to make simple skirts out of this pattern, Christine Jonson's Base Wear Two 1025

I lengthened 108 to turn it into a dress but because the cut on sleeve requires so much fabric I did not have enough in the knit I pulled out to cut it as a dress. I did make it as long as possible to wear it as a tunic. I will still make it as a dress I just have to have a different fabric.

I'm planning on a quiet day sewing interrupted by family time =). We will wait for the New Year watching Avatar in our new blue-ray dvd player with sparkling wine for the boys and a good bottle of wine for DH and me.

Sewing for theater

I'm still very much involved sewing for Peter Pan at my son's high school. Here is the tunic Peter will wear. It looks great on with leather boots and belt and sword. It also looks fantastic when Peter flies, the leaves fluttering along!

I picked up leaves from my backyard and made the templates and cut the shapes out of three different color synthetic suede and attached them to the faux leather tunic (pattern from a Simplicity costume, I think a Roman tunic?). Peter's mom (one of the directors and a professional actress) and I ripped the hem and the sleeves. They don't want to do a "Disney production" so costumes and props are earthy and old looking.

The closure looks a bit wonky, it is velcro and it's not closed properly =)

I am now working on the covers for the props that turn the nursery into Never Never Land. It is going to be a wonderful show!!

Meeting up with Andrea

So what is better than spending the day at Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival with a knitting buddy? Spending the day with a knitting buddy who also crochets and sews! Conversation was never lacking!!

Andrea and I met for the first time at Philadelphia's Pattern Review weekend a year ago, and we made plans to get together this year at Sheep and Wool. We both had similar plans as to what we were looking for so we kept each other in line ;-) The weather cooperated and we had a gorgeous day. She drove down with her knitting group and they had set up a space under the trees so we had a relaxing spot to meet and rest and chat.

This year the festival was the biggest by far, many more vendors than in previous years, I agree with Andrea that Ravelry has had a lot to do with spreading the word about this fantastic event.

I had commented on her blog about Burda 7866 and how I couldn't find it locally, so she brought me a copy! She was wearing her version of this pattern, and I really liked it. She showed me how she treated the neckline, clever girl!, I believe she'll share on her blog later.

I'm almost done with my son's pjs and I look forward to working on the Vogue 1224, but first I have to finish working on my planters since I bought my herbs and annuals yesterday.

Reindeer in Sheep's Clothing

I got a call a couple of days ago from my brother, my nephew needs a lamb outfit for the Christmas pageant, so I innocently asked, when do you need this? of course, the answer is Christmas eve. So I promised a hood and he said they could manage the rest. Okay then...I thought the biggest challenge would be finding the fabric and oh yes, I knew I had a Winnie the Pooh pattern I could modify but where was it? After all my kids are now 12 and 16, it has been a while since I used it.

My neighbor, who sews, calls me to chat while I'm searching my boxes looking for the pattern (it was not with the other patterns). She says she thinks she has a pattern that I can use and she starts looking while we talk. She finds it first so we agree I will pick it up on my way to work so that later on that day I can go looking for fabric. I used the pattern for the mouse hood and changed the shape of the ears to better look like a lamb.

I walked into Joann's and walked straight to the furry stuff and what do you know but there was the perfect fabric!

So that is my story and I'm satisfied I fulfilled my aunt/godmother duties pretty well. Of course my children think their cousin's dignity is in peril =)

The title of this post was inspired by one of mine, and my kids, favorite books ever,Sheep in Wolves' Clothing.

It's back!

Earlier this week I got to pick up my machine, of course life has interfered and it is still encased and untested.



Since I was in A Fabric Place's vicinity, Margarita, my GPS directed me there. Well I left with the two knits you see, aren't they gorgeous? I could have walked out of there with so much more! Since I have been there, the ownership/management passed directly to Michael and his wife and I could see that they have increased their inventory. I was really looking for some faux fur to make a vest, but the one I like was too white, and while I don't shy from bright prints, white fur was just a bit much for me.

I also found a pattern at Joann's to make pjs for my nephew, there are not many out there for toddlers. I might look through my Burda's also but I believe most of Burda's are for older children (he is 1 1/2 years old and petite). The flannel I found is adorable, but I can't show it to you because my SIL reads my blog!
