Vogue 2091 Knit dress

I wore this dress the day we went shopping during PR weekend in Canada, I wanted comfort above all else and I got it with this dress. I wore it with a linen moto jacket since it was cool though (sorry no pictures!)


Estrené este vestido el día que fuimos de compras  con PR en Canada. Yo quería estar cómoda y este vestidito lo es. Ese día me puse una chaqueta estilo moto de hilo (había fresco) pero no tengo fotos.

This pattern is now oop and I wish it wasn't because it is fantastic. It has three very different knit dresses and I like them all. I don't know why I waited so long to make this up.


El patrón está OOP y ojalá que no fuera así pues es fanástico. Tiene tres muy diferentes modelos y todos me gustan. No sé por qué esperé tanto a usarlo.

The version I made comes with a cap sleeve but I added a full short sleeve from another Vogue pattern (knit dress). All other alterations are typical for me, adding 1.5 in to the torso, forward shoulder, and blending from a size 8 at the shoulders/neckline to a 12 at the bust to a 14 at the hip.


La versión que yo escogí tiene una manga bien cortica (cap sleeve) y yo preferí agregar una manga más larga de otro patrón de Vogue, tambien de un vestido de punto. Todos los otros cambios al patrón son típicos para mí: agregué 1.5 pulgadas al largo del torso, eché la costura del hombro hacia alente, y empecé con una talla 8 en los hombros, seguí con unad 12 en el pecho y terminé con una 14 en las caderas.

 I also added extra topstitiching. The instructions for the neckline were great and yielded a good result.


También agregué puntadas de adorno. Las instrucciones estaban buenas y dieron buen resultados.

I used a rayon ponte knit and therefore  I did not make it as form fitting as the envelope shows because I knew my fabric didn't have as much stretch. This design has great shaping included in all seams which makes a shapely dress.

Usé una tela de punto de rayon que como no estiraba tanto, me obligó a no hacer el vestido apretado. Todas las costuras le dan muy buena forma al vestido.

Ignore the wrinkles coming out of the armpits, I must have made those pulling my hair out of my face every time the breeze blew.

No se preocupen por las arrugas en la bocamanga. No me fijé que cuando leventaba los brazos para quitarme el pelo de la cara (pues había brisa) estaba haciendo esas arrugas y no me dí cuenta. 

Pattern Review Weekend 2018 Stratford, Ontario, Canada

 I arrived at Stratford early Wednesday afternoon and since no one else had arrived yet I decided to take a walk into town (about a mile walk). I enjoyed the neighborhood I walked through, beautiful gardens and then I got to the river where I captured the view above.

I was looking for the Shakespeare Gardens which I found and while they were small there was another pretty view of the river (below)

 I then walked towards the main street where all the shops and restaurants are. I found the pretty fountain below.

Back at the hotel later I met up with Karin (who came all the way from Sweden!) and we walked back to town where we had a very nice dinner.

All through Thursday people started to arrive. Karin and I made plans with Markita to do some extra shopping in some out of town shops. We had a great time, including a delicious lunch.

Friday is the official start of the weekend and some of the members were still arriving. This was the day for presentations and some other fun activities. First thing we took a tour of the Strtaford Shakespeare Festival Costume Warehouse. I was in heaven! And in the end we got to play with costumes.

After the tour we went to the venue, a church in town (Knox Presbyterian Church), for presentations and other activities. We heard from Deepika, Gillian (Crafting a rainbow blog), Jalie Patterns and BraMakers Supply. Connie did a demonstration of a favorite technique and some of us helped others take those measurements that are almost impossible to take on our own. We also had a chance to apply the tips that Gillian was giving us on how to take better pictures, including selfies. Below are my attempts.

After a break we returned to the church and had the wonderful surprise of live entertainment by Connie's ukelele band!

The rest of the evening the multiple contests were judged and we had a wonderful dinner.


Saturday was all about shopping and somehow I did not manage to take a single picture. You can see what everyone was up to here (Deepika's story of the weekend) Below is my modest stash after the day was all done.

I had one more dinner with friends in beautiful downtown Stratford.

The next morning those of us that were still around got together at Romeo's for brunch and one last group picture.

So happy to have spent a long weekend in such a wonderful place and in company of so many friends! Looking forward to Portland, Oregon!

Vogue 9237 A line dress

I was so busy with work this past semester that I did not sew a single thing. But as soon as the semester ended (and grades were in!) I started sewing. Of course I did have some incentive Pattern Review Weekend in Stratford, Ontario.


He estado tan ocupada con el trabajo este pasado semestre que no cosí nada. Pero en cuanto mandé las últimas notas me puse a coser. Por supuesto tenía una meta, el viaje a Stratford, Ontario con Pattern Review.




The first project was this Vogue dress that I had had for quite a while. I came across the fabric in my stash (bought during PR weekend in NYC, but not last year's trip, at Metro Textiles). It is a cotton with some stretch with good weight to show off the A line shape of the dress. I chose to make the view with the neckline opening.


El primer proyecto fue este vestido de Vogue. La tela estaba en mi gran pila (la compré en New York pero no en el viaje del año pasado en Metro Textiles) Es un algodón con un poco de Lycra, un poco paradito para que funcionara bien con la línea A del vestido. Me gustó mucho el modelo con la abertura en el cuello así que ese hice.

I made all the usual alterations I always make, no extra changes or issues with fitting.


Todos los ajustes al patrón son los normales que siempre hago. No tuve ningún problema.

This print combines some of my favorite colors and I love the dress.


Este estampado tiene unos de mis colores favoritos, me encanta el vestido.

This pattern is hugely popular on Pattern Review and all I heard about during PR weekend in NYC in 2017.


Este patrón es super popular en  Pattern Review  y todos en nuestra cita en NYC hablaba del patrón y no podían creer que yo no lo había probado.

I don't know how catalog photos get their pants to show no wrinkles!

I used stretch denim from my PRW2017 stash which I bought from the store that has been going out of business for a few years :-) I cut my size (I think it was U) and I made the waistband smaller based on reviews, which was the correct thing to do. I basically sewed them and wore them with perfect fit. What's not to love!


Usé una mezclilla que estira, que es necesario pues estos pantalones no tienen zipper. La tela la compré en NYC en mayo cuando nos reunimos con Pattern Review. La tienda tiene un letrero que dice que va a cerrar desde hace varios años :-) Corté mi talla (U) pero el fajín lo corté, basado en la experienza de otros, más pequeño. Quedaron perfectos.

Vogue 7713

ITY and me have a tough relationship. I love the prints available but....In the summer I can only wear sleeveless  and loose fitting garments because these fabrics are just too hot. In the winter I feel cold when I wear them. I can wear them most comfortably in a classic cool fall day, I know, very limited time range.

Las telas ITY y yo tenemos unas relaciones difíciles. Me encantan los estampados pero...en verano solo puedo usarlas en ropa sin mangas y sin que ajusten porque si no me dan mucho calor. En invierno me dan frío. Solo puedo usar ropa confeccionada en estas telas en los días frescos del otoño, ya sé, bien limitada la cosa.

For this dress I used an ITY beautiful print from my stash using a very simple OOP pattern

Para éste vestido usé un OOP (ya no es publicado) y una tela ITY que hace rato tenía.

This pattern has a front and back center seam and they both have shaping. I shortened the dress a lot to get the length the illustration is showing (on me, 5'6", the dress reached my ankles)

Este modelo tiene costura en el frente y atrás que entallan. Yo acorté el vestido bastante para obtener el largo ilustrado en el patrón (a mí me llegaba a los tobillos)

All edges were turned and stitched.


Todos los bordes: el escote, las sisas y el dobladillo fueron doblados y cosidos.

Vogue 1550, a Paco Peralta design

When choosing your sizing for the tunic, even though this is a designer pattern, follow your usual Vogue Patterns sizing. Keep in mind though that the armholes are higher than usual. Since I always cut an 8 at the shoulders and upper chest and then go out to a 12 at the bust, I needed to also drop the armhole a 1/2 inch  lower. If you don't do this transition I think you will be fine, and the higher armhole is a nice fit.

Cuando escojan la talla para este patrón, aunque es un patrón "designer", escojan su talla regular. Las sisas están cortadas más alta que Vogue regularmente tiene. Yo siempre tengo que cortar un 8 en los hombros y en el pecho un 12. Por esto encontré que tuve que bajar la sisa una media pulgada para que me quedara bien. Si no haces esa transición entre las tallas no creo que tengas problemas.

I followed the instructions for the mitered corners, this was a new technique for me, and they turned out fine.

Yo seguí las instrucciones para crear las puntas de la túnica y no tuve problemas.

I am thankful that Tany posted her reviews and tips on how to insert the organza strips, they were so helpful in this project. This was an outfit that took time but I enjoyed it and I'm happy with the results.

Estoy muy agradecida que Tany escribió acerca de éste diseño y que dió consejos de como mejor agregar las tiras de organza. Este es un conjunto que tomó su tiempo pero disfruté el proceso y estoy contenta con el resultado.

Vogue 1550 Paco Peralta design for Vogue Patterns

I had been working on the culottes for a while. I wanted to make sure the fit was perfect since it would be very difficult to go back and adjust the side seams with the silk organza insets.( I'm making views C and D, above).

Me tomé mi tiempo trabajando en los gauchos. Quería estar segura de que me quedaran bien pues iba a ser difícil modificarlos después por la tira de organza que va en las costuras laterales.



I had to wait for the silk organza since I only had black at home and I wanted it in off white. I used a cross dyed linen from my stash which I love.


Tuve también que esperar a que me llegara la organza pues en casa sólo tenía color negro y yo quería usar un color crema.. El hilo que estoy usando ya lo tenIa.

I learned a new technique to finish the facings around a zipper and I love it. Tany showed how she used the technique as explained in the Sewing Divas blog.

Aprendí una nueva tecnica para como terminar las vistas que están alrededor del zipper. Tany mostró como ella terminó su zipper siguiendo las instrucciones en el blog de Sewing Divas

The culottes are done now and I'm starting on the top.

Los gauchos ya están terminados y empecé con la túnica.

McCalls 7380, a shirtdress

I made this dress last summer ( and wore it at PR weekend in NYC this year!) and I loved how it turned out. The hidden placket was a challenge but if you follow the instructions it turns out just fine. That was the most challenging design feature.

Cosí éste vestido el verano pasado (¡y me lo puse durante el fin de semana en NYC este año!) y me encantó como quedó. Los botones están escondidos en el frente (¡no sé como se dice esto en español!) y fue un poquito complicado el coser pero si siguen las instrucciones queda bien.

Because of the fabric I chose the details don't show well in photographs. I did make a video of the hidden placket on Instagram but I couldn't find the file to post it here.

El diseño de la tela no se presta para enseñar detalles en fotos pero tengo un video para mostrar donde van los botones en Instagram. Tengo pena que no pude encontrar el video para incluirlo aquí.



I will probably make the version with sleeves in the future.

Probablemente haga la version con mangas en el futuro.

Burda Style 11/2016 Mod 105

This top caught my attention after seeing versions made by Allison C and Sharon.

Este blusón me llamó la atención cuando se lo ví a  Allison C y Sharon.

Mine was made from a very stretchy rayon knit I bought when I visited Karen last summer. Since the fabric was very stretchy I did not include all the seam openings the pattern called for on the neckline.

El mío lo hice de un tejido que se estiraba de todos lados (de rayon) el cuál compré cuando visité a Karen el verano pasado. No incluí las aperturas alrededor del cuello para evitar que mi tela cogiera mala forma.



I have worn it once and I like it very much. Others say the ties drive them crazy. Time will tell if I get tired of them. By the way I did shortened the ties since they were super long as drafted.

Me lo he puesto una vez nada más y me gusta mucho. Otros dicen que las bandas les molestan. Con tiempo yo ya veré. Y sí acorté mis bandas, pues el patrón las tenía demasiado largas.

It has been almost a year since I published a post! Life gets busy and so on. You can always catch me on Instagram (@cubanitacose) a much quicker way to share what I'm up to.

Hace casi un año que escribí mi último post! Las cosas de la vida y las responsabilidades interfieren. Siempre pueden ver en qué estoy siguiendome en Instagram (@cubanitacose) es mucho más fácil para mí mostrar en qué estoy allí.



This year the spring musical was Hello Dolly! and while it's not one of my favorite shows it was fun to put together costumes (gloves, hats, parasols!) The company we rent from had a wonderful assortment of costumes so the cast looked great. My main job was to fit and repair and put the outfits together. I also got to make a few headpieces. I almost forgot! I made 18 suffragette sashes. I researched the colors that represented the organization in the US in the period of the show.

Este año montamos el espectáculo musical Hello Dolly! y aunque no es uno de mis favoritos el vestuario fue muy divertido (¡somebreros, guantes y parasoles!). La compañia a quién le alquilamos estaba muy bien surtida de todo lo que necesitabamos. Mi trabajo principal fue modificar, arreglar, reparar cremalleras aunque también tuve la oportunidad de hacer varios adornos de cabeza. Oh! también hice unas bandas de sufragistas, para las cuáles usé telas que representaban los colores de la época en los Estados Unidos.

Above are some of our lovely students. The dress on the right was too short so I added the navy accents and I added the flowers to a hat from our collection.

Arriba están un grupo de las alumnas. El vestido a la derecha era muy corto así que le agregué los detalles en azul marino y a un sombrero de nuestra colección le agregué flores.
